CONSTRUCTION PROJECT ENGINEER (CPE)

The Construction Project Engineer provides support to the project management staff. The CPE plays a significant part in the success of planning, organizing, and implementing project engineering & project controls tasks. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and an ability to work well in a team environment are critical to this position. We are looking for individuals with motivation and eagerness to expand their skillset.

The CPE will report to a marine construction or land foundation project working from an onsite field office. Project locations are in the Philadelphia and New Jersey area with occasional work in Baltimore and the New York metro area.

The ideal candidate will be able to work independently but will also work closely with and report to a construction manager and project manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent
  • 3 years’ experience working in the marine construction or heavy civil field
  • Ability to meet fast-paced, changing schedules and priorities
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time working within a schedule-driven team environment
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to read and comprehend plans and specifications
  • Computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint);
  • BlueBeam, HCSS, Procore, AutoCAD are a plus
  • Driver’s license and own reliable vehicle
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol screenings
  • Possess or ability to procure a Federal Transportation Worker Credential (TWIC)

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Interpret drawings and specifications
  • Support field crews and craft supervision
  • Assist with tracking project costs and progress
  • Compile accurate daily job reports
  • Maintain control of all project documentation and records
  • Generate, manage, and track RFIs from the field to the architect/engineer of record
  • Assist the project manager/superintendent in creating and distributing the project schedule
  • Manage submittals from subcontractors to architect/engineer for approval
  • Coordinate project change-order management with owner and project manager
  • Conduct and document weekly project meetings with ownership and team
  • Assist the project team with project startup and closeout
  • Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and other contract documents
  • Assist estimators and project managers in the development of cost estimates
  • Perform basic engineering calculations
  • Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages
  • Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining percentage of completed/installed materials and work
  • Coding and submission of project payroll
  • Assist in the preparation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) and other site safety documentation
  • Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, and safety training
  • Assist in the preparation of purchase orders and subcontracts, performing solicitations and purchasing as requested
  • Order and schedule material deliveries as required
  • Coordinate QA/QC tasks and schedule inspections
